1. Gather Your Supplies | Before you start, ensure you have all necessary supplies: baking soda, white vinegar, a spray bottle, a damp dish cloth, a plastic or silicone spatula, and rubber gloves for protection. |
2. Empty the Oven | Remove everything from your oven—racks, pizza stone, oven thermometer, etc. |
3. Make a Baking Soda Paste | In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with a few tablespoons of water to make a spreadable paste. |
4. Coat Your Oven | Don your gloves, and spread the baking soda paste all over the interior surfaces of your oven, avoiding the heating elements. A spatula can be useful in spreading the paste. |
5. Let It Sit Overnight | Allow the paste to sit overnight, or for at least 12 hours. The baking soda will need time to break down the grime. |
6. Clean the Oven Racks | While the paste is doing its job, it's a good time to clean the oven racks. Soak them in warm, soapy water and scrub off any grime with a scrub brush or abrasive pad. |
7. Wipe Out the Oven | After 12 hours or overnight, take a damp dish cloth and wipe out as much of the dried baking soda paste as you can. |
8. Apply Vinegar | Put a little vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz everywhere you still see baking soda residue in your oven. The vinegar will react with the baking soda and gently foam. |
9. Do Final Wipe Down | Take your damp cloth again and wipe out the remaining foamy vinegar-baking soda mixture. Repeat until all the residue is gone. |
10. Replace the Racks | Replace the clean oven racks and anything else you keep in your oven, and you're done! |
